Day 3

Jul 11

Today, we visited Herman\'s mission headquarters, with the new training center well underway in its construction.  When completed, the center will be able to house 24 people and accomodate 100+ students at a time.  It is being built right next to the existing center out of which Herman operates his medical mission.

We also dropped in at Estuardo\'s jewelery shop on the way over to Showers of Grace for Session 3.  The students are progressing nicely and are completing their financial plans and executive summaries in preparation for Phase III in the fall.

Day 1

Jul 09

After we checked into the hotel, we had a brief meeting with Estuardo to discuss the 22 students who were expected to attend the workshop in the evening.  As time was running short, we hopped into the van and quickly grouped the students by business type and divied them up amongst the team members.

Angelino drove the team through Guatemala City to the Showers of Grace Church located on a small ridge overlooking the city.  The church is quite large, beautiful, and very much touched by God.  We were met there by Estuardo\'s family (wife Gladys, son Javier, and daughter Dulce) and several of the students.

Estuardo did a great introduction of the team, and we were warmly received by all the students.  After Terry Culling reviewed the Phase I material, we broke into our small groups and began working with the students.  Though the team was tired from a long travel day and a 7:00 pm start to the class, the students\' passion re-energized us as we listened to their business ideas.  It was incredible to hear the diversity of business types and how God was working in them.

Day 2

Jul 09

Day 2 began with a team breakfast, where the Lord\'s full food diversity was on display at the hotel resturant - everything from omletes, a full compliment of fresh orange, watermelon, & mango juices, and some very exotic fruits that looked more like sea creatures.  We also enjoyed the very strong Guatemalan COFFEE, and weren\'t quite sure afterward if the Spirit was moving or just the caffeine.

Following the morning devotional, we had lunch with Estuardo - and then a visit to Angelino\'s funeral home business.  It is amazing to see how God is moving there - 20+ employees, several business vehicles, and a very nice, 3-floor facility.  The business is growing rapidly and thus experiencing many of the normal associated pains.  I believe God put the team there at the right moment to share some wisdom that will truly help this young entrepreneur.

Later, as we made our way back to Showers of Grace, we got to experience Guatemala City rush hour, which turned a 30-minute jaunte into a 1.5 hour \"path of least resistance\" through of some of the toughest sections of the city.  We are humbled by what God has given us, and pray for those who live with SO much less.

We made it to Session 2 and began work with the students.  It is amzing to see the outpouring of energy that the students show in their efforts and the ideas God places in their hearts - plans for hospitals, beauty shops, advertising agencies - all with a Kingdom mission.  The team\'s work is challenging, but rewarding, as we help the students make progress toward realizing their dreams.

Phase II Team Arrives in Guatemala

Jul 07

The team is safely on the ground and well fed following our flight from Atlanta to Guatemala City.  God certainly blessed us with a smooth and uneventful journey.  We were met at the airport by Estuardo and Angelino (who is a recent graduate of the program and owner of a funeral home business).  For clarity, all team members arrived alive and not in need of Angelino\'s services - Angelino was kind enough to drive the van!

Tonight, we will meet the students, and Estuardo expects 20+ in attendance.  Please send your prayers as we begin tonight.
