So after laying eyes on the Nile River in person, it seems that turning it to blood actually was a big deal. It is quite a sizable river. It would be somewhat like the ‘Hooch turning to blood, if you can imagine that…
And the parting of the Red Sea, well, yeah, that too. We have yet to be able to see the opposite shore of the Red Sea and imagining a wall of water all the way across, that creates a dry passage from shore to shore, is just a bit of a stretch of the imagination.
It has been wonderful to see a new part of the world that is so rich in history of God’s people. The land and the people are beautiful in their differences. There is a wide variety of beauty to behold, from buildings to monuments, to vegetation (or the lack there-of). The fingerprints of our Creator are evident all around us when we open our eyes to see the wonder of His creation.
Here’s our itinerary so far:
Day 1—our first day was spent attempting to sleep in a chair on a plane…..not so comfy for those of us who did not realize that the headrests provided a pillow (party foul!). Some of us got a glimpse of the pyramids as we were coming in for landing. We ended the day with dinner at 10:00 pm at an Egyptian restaurant in downtown Cairo. The meal consisted of meat, more meat, hummus, and meat (including chicken livers!). It was a valuable lesson for us to refrain from asking the origin of our food—just pray and chew! Oh, and another thing, the driving here is CRAZY! No one really pays attention to the lines on the road, and everyone uses their horn to “talk” to the other cars. Peter challenged the team to find a car without any body damage, which was rather difficult, considering they seem to think commuting is a game of bumper cars.
Day 2—After breakfast, we headed out of Cairo to the Red Sea. Pictures are below—the scenery is quite different, but stunningly beautiful in its own way. We arrived at our hotel, and were surprised by all of the green plants—something so different from the desert we just drove through. As soon as we could, we went swimming in the Red Sea. The water is an aqua blue color, and crystal clear. After the sun went down at 5:oo pm, we sat on the beach to get our thoughts out about all of the new things we were experiencing. The significance of this historical location led us into a discussion about what God is currently doing here and how we fit into that.
Day 3—Some of us decided to get up early to see the sun rise over the Red Sea (5:30 in the morning here in Egypt!!!! 10:30pm where you are!) The views were stunning—Lindsey and I read Exodus 14 out-loud to take in the power of God in this place. At this point, we discovered that Daniel was sick (which, for everyone’s worries—he is feeling much better now!). We spent the day together as a team in preparation for the camp training, which starts tomorrow.
We are enjoying the food, each other’s company, a lot of laughter, and the beauty of Egypt. Please continue to pray for our health, safe travels throughout the country, and discernment and sensitivity to the spiritual lives of the Egyptian people we come into contact with. Thank you all so much for your support.

We had our last state-side meeting tonight. After a time of great prayer and lot\'s of questions, we packed up all our gear and begin the journey to Egypt. Our flight takes off tomorrow at 5pm. Wish us sweet dreams on our flight, so that we can arrive alert and ready for what lies ahead!
