Headed Home

Jan 21

We spent a wonderful day in Antigua yesterday.  We visited a new school called Mundo Creativo and spent time with those teachers who attended the conference.  They were doing wonderful activities with the pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students.  We were very encouraged and inspired by what we saw- very developmentally appropriate, very colorful, good teaching. Then we...

Miracle on the Mountain

Jan 19

We got to enjoy looking at the beautiful mountains and volcanoes on our drive to Xetzitzi this morning.  It was a beautiful day, but it did not compare with the beautiful faces of the children that greeted us.  The sweet teachers, children and Carlos (the principal) gave \"Welcome\" a whole different meaning today.  We were overwhelmed by their hospitality.  They held an...

We are here!

Jan 16

We are so happy to be here in Guatemala and at the MMM ( Medical Missions Ministry).  We experienced God\'s kindness through our safe travel, our free checked luggage (Delta waived the $40 fee for each bag!!! ), awesome worship at Vida Real, a great message from the pastor, the view of Antigua from a park with a 70 year old stone cross hundreds of feet above the city, and sweet...

The Car Wash last Saturday at Ace Hardware was a success.  We raised $514.00 for the GO-Team!  Participants included Phil & Craig, Lynn & Audry, Chris & Preston, Susan & Emily, Camille, Regan and Richard.  We had some donate $10, some $40, some just donated without a car wash!  We also were able to share our motivation and...

Day 2 & 3

Jun 15

Day two consisted of more training and learning how to approach the Thai students and making the conversation comfortble for them to practice english. Lonnie (one of the Thai partners) shared some of his personal experiences with us and gave us a lot of advice for this trip. We also learned more Thai greetings and phrases that day. Later in the evening we went to a classroom and played games...

Our Second Meeting

Jun 13

We had our second team meeting on June 5th.  It was another great time together.  We had a more detailed discussion about our trip and an initial conversation about the people of Guatemala.  Many of us know very little about the people, but it is clear that we all want to know more so that we can minster in the most effective ways.  The prayer time with the group was...

Our First Post - 26 April 2011

Apr 26

Friday was an exciting evening for all of us.  We had our first kick off meeting in preparation for our trip to Guatemala!  It was great to look around the room and to see all the faces of eighth grade kids and parents excited about doing something hard this summer for God\'s glory.  We all seemed a little uneasy for a variety of reasons, but the shared sense was that we were...

GO Indigenous Partnerships II

We believe that, for long-term reproducibility, ministries should receive their primary financial support from sources within their culture.

We\'ve been impacted through the years by Steve Saint and Daniel Rickett\'s teachings on the dangers of creating dependency.  From Dan Rickett\'s book on ...

On Wednesday evening we took the 4 hour mountain drive to return to the ministry center.  Have I mentioned how many roads were impacted by the recent weather?  Many roads had large piles of mud and boulders on both sides of the road from the landslides.  The roads were generally cleared, but occasionally on four lane highways two lanes were closed.  At one point we went...

coming home

Jun 25

The team members, including the 2 chaperones, are heading to the Mumbai airport now to make the long voyage home!  Please be in prayer for Jonathan McCoy as he\'s running a fever and trying to decide whether to stay with our partners and rest up, or to get on the plane.  The Lord is our Healer, and we lift up Jonathan to Him today.

Village impressions

Jun 25

Our first three clinics were in rural Guatemalan villages.  As Cindy mentioned, the entire team stayed in a church fellowship hall.  Except for the bathrooms, the church was a fine place to stay.  The water supply was only available for a short time--perhaps an hour--each day.  Therefore during that hour we filled bucket after bucket with water and stored it in large...
