Getting Ready to Head to ATL

Oct 31

Hi Friends!

All is well here in Dar. We have enjoyed a day resting, journaling and debriefing at the hotel. Our time here has gone so very fast. Alice is preparing a full debrief which we will post when we get to Amsterdam. I just wanted to let you know that we will be heading to the airport around 3:00 a.m. to catch our 5:30 a.m. flight to Nairobi. From Nairobi, we will transfer planes then head on to Amsterdam. Please pray we make our connection and that our luggage makes it to Amsterdam as we will have a fairly tight connection when there.

Thank you so very much for praying with/for us. We feel God's presence and it has been such a special time. I will post pictures of our time here on my facebook page (faster downloading there), but will post some here when I get back to the States.

Know you are loved and missed.

Ciao for now ...

Carolyn

LOLMD Going Well

Oct 27

hi Friends!

I have a brief window where i have internet this a.m. and wanted to let you know that we are doing great and the clinic is going very well. We are encouraged as we see the leaders teach and facilitate. They did more teaching than facilitating at first, but as the week has gone on, they are moving to a more interactive/facilitative approach. One of the highlights was watching Judith teach - her first time ever. This woman is one flower who totally blossomed before our eyes ... (Karla Boy, her discipleship leader, would have been so very proud of her!) We were and are amazed at God's work in and through each of the leaders. To sit in the back of the room and to have the privilege of seeing them teach Jesus, Grace, the PROCESS of LOLMD, relationship and how to target a person's heart using their own stories and illustrations, etc. is a joy that is hard to express.

Today, is our first day of rain - a welcome relief from the hot sun/heat and the last day of the seminar. I will lead devotions this morning and then Andres and I will facilitate a debrief session with the leaders this evening. Tomorrow, we will meet with the Imara staff for a further debrief and coach them as they perpare for tne next clinic. On Sunday, we will worship with Bishop Sheggah and then transfer to a hotel that is near the airport. We will write more of the week when we get there as we should have wifi there.

Know you and your prayers are very much appreciated! We are so grateful for you and them!

Serving with you,

Carolyn

Team Arrived Safely in Dar

Oct 25

I received a text message from Carolyn last night.  They made it safely to Tanzania but they don't have internet service at the hostel.  However, she will be sure to post a blog when she is able or she may text again and I can pass on their news.  By the way...she said the luggage made it and to thank everyone for their prayers in that regard.

Please continue to pray for the team as they coach the Tanzanian leaders through their first "solo" clinic.

We are praying our luggage makes it onto the plane. Would you join us in that prayer? You never know what can happen during a 22 hour layover. :)

We are so looking forward to seeing our friends in Dar and are anxious to get on our way ...

Know y'all are loved, missed and appreciated. Thanks for joining us in prayer!

And, we're off ....

Oct 23

Hi Friends!

This evening, Andres and Alice Arraez and I will leave for Tanzania to support the Tanzanian core leadership team as they facilitate their first Tanzanian-led LOLMD Clinic in Dar Es Salaam. Since the graduation in October of 2009, the Tanzanians have been leading discipleship groups and developing LOLMD leaders in their respective regions. At the strategic planning clinic that was held in November 2010, the Tanzanian Core Leadership team decided to launch a pilot LOLMD Clinic in Dar Es Salaam. Since November 2010, the nationals have been leading groups, coaching leaders, preparing LOLMD Clinic facilitators to lead the clinic, prayerfully selecting clinic participants and writing a contextually appropriate LOLMD curriculum that incorporates the spiritual growth elements of TEAMS (truth, equipping, accountability, mission, supplication). We are so looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor and celebrating the work God has done in and through their lives and ministries.

Would you consider praying for us as we go and serve our brothers and sisters? I would be most grateful for the covering 'as we go.' I will keep you posted, as we are able (you never know about power, etc. in Tanzania).

Thank you for your love, support and prayers. You have been (and continue to be) an integral part of the team and we are so grateful for you all.

Serving with you,

Carolyn

TRIP PURPOSE:

To serve, coach and support our Tanzanian brothers and sisters as they facilitate the first fully Tanzanian led Life on Life Missional Discipleship Clinic.

TEAM:

Andres and Alice Arraez, Carolyn Bahr

TRIP VERSES:

Team Verses:

1Peter 4:10-12 - "As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."

1 Thessalonians 2:8 – “Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.”

John 17:23 – “I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.”

Acts 20:28-32 (For the TZ Leaders as we make the 'hand-off') - "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after (our) departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be on the alert, ... And now (we) commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified."

Personal Verses:

Psalm 96:7-9 (MSG)

Bravo, God, Bravo!

Everyone join in the great shout: Encore!

In awe before the beauty, in awe before the might.

Bring gifts and celebrate,

Bow before the beauty of God, then to your knees—everyone worship!

Arrived Safely in Amsterdam / Pray for Luggage

Oct 23

Hi Friends!

We arrived safely in Amsterdam this afternoon. On Saturday, we took the new 10:40 p.m. KLM flight and got here around 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. We will spend the night at a hotel near the airport and then head on to Dar Es Salaam tomorrow a.m. It is such a treat to have a layover before heading on to Africa - especially love the hot shower and a bed to rest in. Great time to transition and prepare for the clinic which will begin on Tuesday a.m.

Please pray that our luggage would make it on the plane tomorrow along with us. :)  You never know what could happen during a 22 hour layover.

Will try to write when i get to Dar (depends on wifi capacity, electricity, etc.).

Much love,

Carolyn, for the team
